10/6/2023 0 Comments Dodge ram rambox on 6 foot bed![]() (Again, the high-ouput diesel with 1,075 lb-ft is only available on the one-ton Ram 3500.) ![]() The 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six also keeps its 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque ratings from 2022 and comes paired with a stouter six-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive (4WD) via an electronic transfer case is optional. Ram left the 2500’s drivetrain unchanged for 2023, which means the standard 6.4-liter gasoline V8 still puts down 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Ram 2500’s interior is closely based on that of the light-duty 1500, but that means lots of clever storage options, logical controls and nice materials for this class. It isn’t cheap, but the Ram 2500 has lots to offer. Adding interior tech options or selecting specific packages can quickly raise the price, as the HD Rebel starts at $67,045 (plus $1,800 destination) and up over $90,000 with the Cummins engine and high-spec Level 2 Equipment Group. The cheapest Crew Cab starts at $47,5400 and the first Mega Cab stickers for $57,015. The Ram 2500 lineup’s rising prices reflect industry-wide trends, as the base 2500 Regular Cab bumps up by almost exactly 10% for 2023 with a starting price of $43,920 (excluding destination). Unfortunately, while Ram offers a comprehensive suite of active safety systems, almost all of them cost extra. ![]() Each of the Ram 2500’s cabs is comfy inside and filled with clever storage options. Natura Plus leather bucket seats, real wood on the Ram Limited and a 12-inch Uconnect 5 center infotainment touchscreen top out the range of offerings. An optional digital gauge cluster uses a configurable five-tile display that is saveable by user profile, with much more info available in lower menus. There’s plenty of other technology, however. GM’s advantage in this arena is its optional trailer assistance systems, which Ram can’t quite match. While the Rebel package and Power Wagon versions offer off-road talent that’s excellent for the class, this is still a workhorse vehicle. On the inside, Ram steps up the 2500’s tech features for 2023 with digital screens, mirrors, and towing-specific features including an automated Trailer Reverse Steering Control system. The range of lower-grade Rams still runs from the two-door Regular Cab with an 8-food bed to the Crew Cab with a 6-foot-4 bed and then the Mega Cab, available only with the 6-foot-4 bed because the interior stretches a full 11.1 inches. Big and bold, there’s no mistaking the Ram 2500 for any of its heavy-duty competitors and it only gets better for 2023 with the addition of the Heavy Duty Rebel, which channels the visuals of the Ram 1500 TRX. The Ram compares well to the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and its GMC Sierra 2500HD sister, and all of these trucks are more capable and sophisticated than Nissan’s Titan XD. Ram somehow added 10 pounds of towing capacity for 2023 to perfectly rival the F-250’s rating, though. The high-output Cummins is still only available on Ram’s 3500-grade and higher trucks, which gives the Ford Super Duty F-250 an edge on overall power stats at the top of the lineup, thanks to the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8’s 1,050 lb-ft of torque. As on its little brother the Ram 1500, the 2500 offers a class-exclusive five-link coil-sprung rear suspension on the 2500 lineup, as opposed to the competition’s more typical leaf springs, and the resulting smooth ride can also be supplemented with an optional air suspension setup (which makes hitching up that trailer all the easier). New for 2023, Ram adds a Heavy Duty Rebel package to the 2500 lineup that comes equipped with a standard gasoline Hemi V8 producing 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.Īn available Cummins turbodiesel inline-six with 370 hp and 850 lb-ft significantly boosts the HD Rebel’s appeal as a toy hauler capable of moderate off-roading, though the diesel engine’s weight results in a stiffer suspension setup when the going gets tough. Ram’s 2500 lineup ditches the independent front suspension of most mid-sized and 1500-grade trucks, offering a wide range of potential packages for everything from job site tool chests to toy haulers and fifth-wheel gooseneck trailering. For truck buyers who prioritize towing capacity and off-road articulation, beefy frames and solid front axles make Heavy Duty pickups a must.
